September 15, 2026, 70 – Betty Lou McCandless, 70, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at her home.
Lou was born in Wayne County on February 4, 1956, to the late Johnnie Franklin McCandless and Blanche Crocker McCandless. She was a proud daughter, loving sister, cherished aunt, and a woman who valued her family deeply.
Lou proudly served her country in the United States Navy. Following her military service, she returned home and continued to work alongside her family at Radford Auto Auction and Ann Bishop Insurance Company. She was currently employed with the Wash House in Goldsboro, where she continued to work and make a difference in the lives of those around her.
Lou will be remembered for her independent spirit, her strong work ethic, and the love she had for her family. Her sisters and nieces and nephews held a special place in her heart, and she treasured the time they shared together. Though her passing was unexpected, the memories she created and the love she gave will remain with her family and friends for years to come.
A graveside service to celebrate Lou’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at Radford Family Cemetery in the Nahunta Community. Following the service, the family will receive friends at the cemetery.
In keeping with Lou’s personality, her family invites those attending the service to wear casual attire as a special way of honoring her life.
Lou is survived by her sisters, Karen Odom, Gail Radford, Ann Bishop, and Janice Rose McCandless; and several nieces and nephews whom she loved very much.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Lou’s memory to Tunnel to Towers.
