GOLDSBORO, N.C. — The Goldsboro Elks Lodge BPOE 139 has once again received national recognition for its commitment to fighting childhood cancer, earning the National Community Project Award for the fifth consecutive year.
The honor was presented during the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks National Convention in Chicago, Illinois, on July 4, 2026, recognizing the lodge’s annual St. Baldrick’s Foundation Fundraiser and its impact on pediatric cancer research.
Through the dedication of Goldsboro Elks members, volunteers and community supporters, this year’s fundraiser raised $42,000 to support research aimed at finding cures for childhood cancers.
Goldsboro Elks Exalted Ruler Michael Dubrowsky said the award reflects the collective effort of the entire lodge.
“I may have accepted it, but this Community Project award belongs to our lodge and every lodge member who volunteered, donated, or shaved their head at this year’s event,” Dubrowsky said.
The annual fundraiser relies on volunteers who help organize and staff the event, as well as participants willing to shave their heads or beards while raising donations for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation.
Dubrowsky is already encouraging the community to begin preparing for next year’s event.
“Start growing out your hair and beards, because we have a top team trophy to keep out of the hands of our nemesis, Well Travelled Beer,” he said.
The 2027 Goldsboro St. Baldrick’s Foundation fundraiser is scheduled for Saturday, March 20, at The Hub in downtown Goldsboro.
