June 16, 2026, 84, Murphy – Mrs. Mary Rose Brock, age 84 of Murphy, NC., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at Stonehenge Assisted Living following an extended illness.
Mrs. Brock was born on January 3, 1942. Raised in the Snow Hill Church community in northern Duplin County, NC, she attended the B. F. Grady High School. She enjoyed gardening and flowers, and was an avid reader. She attended First Baptist Church in Blairsville, Ga. A career in health care began as she becoming a certified nurse assistant. She then attended school to become a licensed practical nurse, and a year later, she became a registered nurse. Finally, she attained her bachelor degree in nursing.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Roxan and Paul Andrews of Murphy, NC; a son, David Brock of Wilmington, NC; five grandchildren, Remi Canales, Hendrix Canales, Olivia Rose DeRoss, Lillian DeRoss, and Merritt Brock, and many other relatives and friends. She, too, cherished her beloved dog, Charlie.
The youngest of ten and the last surviving child of her late parents, Herman and Julia Rhodes Bishop, she had been married to Prentice Ray Brock, who died in 1980, and later to Sherwood Cook, who passed in 2021. Her late siblings were Chancey “Bud” Bishop, Doris B. Carrell, Athalene B. Jones, Hubert Bishop, Hilburn Bishop, Haylon Bishop, Ruth B. Houston, Marie B. Andrews, and Herman Ray Bishop
Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 23, at Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive, NC, at 6:00 p.m., with visitation to follow. Officiating will be the Rev. Mark S. Hobbs. Mrs. Brock will be laid to rest following a committal service on Wednesday, June 24, at 10:00 a.m. at Devotional Gardens at Warsaw.
