FREMONT, N.C. — A Fremont man was arrested Wednesday evening after allegedly firing multiple rounds toward a group of people near railroad tracks in the town, according to the Fremont Police Department.
Officers responded around 7:25 p.m. on June 17 to the 200 block of South Goldsboro Street following multiple reports of shots fired and a possible shooting in the area.
Upon arriving, officers launched an investigation and determined that a dump truck had approached a location near the railroad tracks where several individuals were standing beside a parked vehicle. Police say the male driver of the truck discharged several rounds in the direction of the group before leaving the area.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The Pikeville Police Department and the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist Fremont officers with the investigation.
Authorities later located the suspect vehicle in the 300 block of East Norwayne Alumni Way. Investigators identified the suspect as Tory A. Powell, who was taken into custody without incident.
Powell was charged with:
- Possession of a Firearm by a Felon (Felony)
- Assault with a Deadly Weapon (Misdemeanor)
- Discharging a Firearm Within City Limits (Misdemeanor)
Following his arrest, Powell was transported to the Wayne County Detention Center, where a magistrate set his bond at $13,000 secured.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
