June 12, 2026, 77, Greensboro – Marshall Wayne Strickland, 77, passed away on Friday, June 12, 2026 at his home. Born in Johnston County on December 5, 1948, he was son to the late Marshall H. Strickland and Lela Mae Jones Strickland.
Wayne was a man who loved the outdoors and could often be found fishing, hunting, or enjoying nature. He was a true project man who always kept himself busy, never shying away from a task and always finding something to work on. Above all, Wayne cherished the time he spent with his family. Whether gathered for special occasions or enjoying everyday moments together, he treasured the love, laughter, and memories they shared.
Music was one of Wayne’s greatest passions. He loved listening to music and found special joy in playing his guitar. Whether playing for himself, family, or friends, music brought him happiness and was a meaningful part of his life. He appreciated a good song, enjoyed sharing music with others, and created many fond memories through his love of playing.
Wayne took pride in his career and became a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 465 in July 1966, a distinction he valued throughout his life. He will be remembered for his hardworking nature, his many talents, his love of music, and the kindness he shared with those around him.
Wayne is survived by his children, Wynnette Strickland, Kathrine Adams and husband, Myron, Eric Strickland and wife, Amanda, Lindsey Strickland and Jeremy Strickland; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and his brother, Billy Strickland and wife, Nancy.
In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Idol Strickland and his sister, Connie Colston and husband, Keith.
A graveside service to honor Wayne will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. in the Jones Family Cemetery with Pastor Neal Cox officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Wayne’s honor to Core Port Free Will Baptist Church, 6847 Core Point Road, Blounts Creek, NC 27814 or to a charity of choice.
