GOLDSBORO, N.C. — A Goldsboro woman has been arrested and charged with attempted murder following an investigation into a shooting that left a 25-year-old woman seriously injured earlier this week.
According to the Goldsboro Police Department, officers responded to the 800 block of West Oak Street at approximately 12:50 a.m. on June 11 after receiving a ShotSpotter alert indicating gunfire in the area.
When officers arrived, they learned that an adult female victim had sustained a gunshot wound and was located in the 100 block of Vanderbilt Circle. The victim, identified as 25-year-old Jacquelyn Westry of Goldsboro, was transported to UNC Health Wayne before being airlifted to ECU Health Medical Center for further treatment.
The Goldsboro Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division responded to the scene and assumed responsibility for the investigation.
As a result of the ongoing investigation, investigators with the department’s Investigative Services Bureau identified 34-year-old Uneaka Shakeema Best of Goldsboro as the suspect. Authorities secured an arrest warrant on June 12.
Later that same day, the warrant was served without incident at the Wayne County Magistrate’s Office.
Best has been charged with:
- One count of Attempted First-Degree Murder
- One count of Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury
She is being held without bond and is scheduled to make her first court appearance on June 15.
