MOUNT OLIVE, — The University of Mount Olive is gearing up for its Annual Giving Day on Apr. 1.
Themed “Thrive in ‘25,” this year’s event aims to rally the UMO community in a collective effort to raise essential funds to drive innovation, enhance academic programs, and improve campus facilities.
“Giving Day unites alumni, parents, faculty, students, and supporters in a shared mission to strengthen UMO’s future,” Vice President for University Advancement Dr. Twyla Wells said. “Giving Day is more than just a fundraiser —it’s a movement. This annual event provides crucial resources that enable the University to implement cutting-edge programs, expand opportunities, and improve infrastructure.”
UMO has set an ambitious fundraising goal of $600,000.
To achieve this, the University is rolling out a 30-day countdown campaign, culminating in an intense final five-day push leading up to Giving Day.
“We are challenging our community to step up in a big way this year,” said Wells. “With this goal, we can make meaningful changes that will positively impact students now and in the future.”
According to Project Specialist Christal Howell, UMO is sparking excitement and participation through social media challenges, department competitions, and donor-matching incentives.
“There will be creative ways to give, including an “Early Bird Match,” where the first 50 donors will have their gifts doubled, and a “Final Countdown” Challenge, where donations made in the last two hours will be matched 2-for-1,” Howell said.
Key groups encouraged to participate include alumni, parents, Free Will Baptist Church members, businesses, and community organizations.
“UMO is leveraging influential alumni ambassadors, interactive digital outreach, and live events to engage donors more than ever,” Howell shared. “A real-time donation tracker will allow supporters to monitor progress through a thermometer bar, donor leaderboards, and milestone updates.”
“Giving Day is more than just a fundraising event—it’s an opportunity to shape UMO’s future,” said Wells. “Whether through a small donation or a major gift, every contribution plays a role in ensuring that students and faculty thrive in 2025 and beyond.”
