UMO’s Watt Earns 200th win as Head Coach

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — University of Mount Olive head baseball coach Rob Watt earned his 200th career win as head coach in the Trojans’ 3-2 win on Sunday afternoon over Palm Beach Atlantic.

Hayden Myrick earned the win on the mound for No. 21 Mount Olive (2-1) with two innings of scoreless relief.

Lane McLean and Jon Howard both finished with two hits for the Trojans.

Mount Olive trailed 2-0 through six innings before pushing across two runs in the top of the seventh inning.

The Trojans took the lead for good in the top of the ninth inning on Howard’s solo home run.

Mount Olive opened its season with a 12-8 win on Friday over Lynn, before dropping falling to Barry 2-1 on Saturday.

Watt was promoted to head coach in 2018 after long-time Trojans’ head coach Carl Lancaster retired.

Watt was named as an assistant baseball coach in the summer of 2004 and has served as both a hitting coach and pitching coach. Watt is also an instructor in the recreation and leisure studies department.

Since Watt joined the Mount Olive baseball coaching staff, the Trojans have won five conference championships and have earned ten NCAA Tournament appearances.

Mount Olive won NCAA II regional titles in 2008 and 2011, and won the NCAA Division II Baseball National Championship in 2008.

The Trojans tied for third in the 2011 Division II College World Series in Cary.

Mount Olive hosts Coker at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.
