Evelyn Harrison White, born on February 23, 1941, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2024, at the age of 83. She left behind a legacy of love, strength, and dedication that will forever be remembered by all who knew her. Born in Lenoir County to the late Richard and Annie Blanche Harrison. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings William Harrison, Cecil Harrison, Joseph “Maxie” Harrison, Lily Mae “Lil” McCoy, and Frances Pittman. Evelyn is survived by two sisters Ruby Tyndall and Mary Mason as well as sister-in-law Ann Harrison and brother-in-law Bob Tyndall.
Evelyn was the beloved wife of Ivy White for 63 remarkable years and together they created a life filled with love, family, and faith. She was the devoted mother of three daughters: Sonya Hinsdale, Monica Currin, and Janine White who she nurtured with endless care, guidance, and wisdom. Her love extended to her four grandsons, Harrison and Davis Currin; Evan and Owen Sumerlin as well as her sons-in-law Martin Currin and Kevin Hinsdale.
A mother, daughter, grandmother, sister, aunt, caregiver, and friend Evelyn was known for her boundless compassion and selflessness. Her strength was rooted deeply in her faith and she was a true warrior in her beliefs, standing as an incredible ally to those she loved and to her community. She was an incredible seamstress, crafting garments and treasures with care and precision. She took great pride in always maintaining an immaculate home, ensuring her family was surrounded by warmth, comfort, and beauty.
Evelyn’s talents extended to the kitchen where she became renowned for her baking, especially anything chocolate. Spaghetti and lasagna meals were her specialties that brought people together and created lasting memories.
Her love for cats and dogs was another hallmark of her life and we know she will be greeted in heaven by the many animals she adored and cared for over the years.
Evelyn will be greatly missed by all fortunate enough to know her, and her spirit will live on through the love and kindness she shared.
A celebration of Evelyn’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at Rouse Funeral Home, 108 North Caswell Street, LaGrange, NC. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
A graveside committal service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at Pinelawn Memorial Park, 4488 US Highway 70, Kinston, NC.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 930B Wellness Drive, Greenville, NC 27834.
