The life of a loved one does not end! It simply goes on. With its work finished here, it takes up work in another room. Our lives are but a brief day. Nature teaches us this; the rotation of the seasons, the leaf that falls in the autumn lives again in the new leaf in the spring. There is no end. It becomes easier to believe this when the other shore begins for our loved ones.

On June 8, 1945, in Goldsboro, North Carolina the late Viola Flowers Anderson and the late Clarence Steve Anderson were blessed with their last child, a baby girl whom they named Edna Christine.

Chris, Aunt Chris or Ms. Chris as she was so lovingly known as graduated from Dillard High School in Goldsboro, NC. Awhile after graduation from high school she met and married the late Mr. Charles Burden and two children resulted from this union.

Chris was hard and diligent worker. She started her career as cook for Wayne Motel, Goldsboro NC. She then worked as a domestic helper for United Maintenance Services, Inc. until 1988 when the company moved. She then worked as the Head Cook for Central Lunch Restaurant in Goldsboro, NC until it closed in June 2001. Chris then worked for the Mt. Zion school program until she retirement.

Chris learned at an early age that there was a Supreme Being who controlled the destiny of all men and women. With this realization in mind, she began her journey with the Lord at St Mark Church of Christ. She continued her faithful and loyal services to the Lord through the guidance of Mt. Zion Church Ministries. After moving with her youngest son to New Bern, NC where she attended About My Father’s Business Ministries until illness overtook her and she could not attend.

Chris was always a smiling, cheerful and obliging Christian woman who served the Lord faithfully, devoted to her family both immediate and extended, and a loyal friend. She greeted everyone with open arms and an open heart.

She was not only preceded in death by her parents and husband but one son Marcus D. Burden, two brothers Clarence Anderson and Allen Anderson, two sisters Rosetta Marsalis and Annie J Scott, one sister-in-law Vera Anderson, two brothers-in-law Charles Marsalis and Lennon J Scott, Sr., and one grandson Jamal Raynor.

On Monday at 9:00 a.m. October 14, 2024, Edna Christine Burden’s soul took its eternal heavenly flight. Her memories and heavenly “take off” will be cherished by her son, Maurice N. Burden (Jessica) of Maryland; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. One brother William Anderson of Wilson, NC; two sisters-in-law Sophronia Anderson, Dudley, NC, and Annie Anderson of Goldsboro, NC; three nephews one of which she helped raise Lennon J Scott, Jr (Latisha) of Greenville NC, Allen Anderson, Jr (Pamela) of Goldsboro, NC, Michael A. Marsalis (Carol) of Raleigh, NC; Four nieces: Angela “Candy” Anderson of Dudley, NC, Dr. Sharon L Marsalis of Garner, NC, Elondia Crouell (Melvin) and Apostal Stephanie Bell-Hart (Reco), and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.

Services of caring, compassionate, and distinguished class entrusted to J.B. Rhodes Funeral Home & Cremations of Goldsboro.
