Alice Faye Cavender Williams

October 18, 2024, 76, New Bern —

March 3, 1948 – October 18, 2024

Alice Faye Cavender Williams, 76, peacefully departed this life for life eternal on Friday evening, October 18, 2024, at Crystal Coast Hospice House while surrounded by her loving family. Alice was born in Knox County, Tennessee to the late James Joseph Cavender and Lucile Griffitts Cavender on March 3, 1948. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Frances Williams; siblings, Jimmy Cavender, Earlene Nichols, and Steve Cavender; brother-in-law, Paul Williams; sister-in-law, Carolyn Crawford; and a son, Richard Williams.

Upon graduation from Young High School in Knoxville, Tennessee with the class of 1966, Alice began work with the telephone company. Starting her career with Bell South, she later transitioned to Carolina Telephone and Telegraph before retiring from AT&T. Following her retirement, she continued to work at Nolan Company followed by Snow Hill Tape.

A great conversationalist, Alice made friends easily and could strike up a conversation with anyone. Through working at the telephone company, she entertained many throughout the years, using her sweet and kind personality to her benefit. With a great love for the beach, Alice and Owen relocated to Surf City where they spent many happy years together. Learning to fish at an early age, Alice continued to enjoy her time fishing from the pier for as long as she was able.

An excellent cook, Alice was known for many tasty meals. While everything from her kitchen was exceptional, no one could beat her biscuits. She could make them just right and was glad to offer lessons to her sisters so that they could learn the skill, too.

Dedicated to her family, Alice took great concern with the wellbeing of her clan. She kept in close contact with her siblings, children, and extended family and always made sure they knew she was thinking of them. With a great love for the Lord, she faithfully worshiped with the congregation of Trinity United Methodist Church while living in Kinston, and Faith Harbor United Methodist Church upon relocating to the beach.

A graveside service of love and remembrance will be held on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Pinelawn Memorial Park with Rev. Bescye Burnett officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.

Alice is survived by her husband of 43 years, Owen Williams; children, Angela Sutton and husband, Scott and Brian Williams and wife, Ashleigh; grandchildren, Ashley Sutton, Elizabeth Sutton, Elizabeth Johnson, John Williams, Sommer Johnson, and Cassidy Cowley; siblings, Louise Allen, Frank Cavender, Lindsay Cavender and wife, Patsy, and Joyce Hawkins; along with many nieces and nephews.
