Donald Keith Benton, 67, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville, NC with his son and daughter-in-law by his side. He was born on June 10, 1957, in Wayne County to the late Lenwood Earl Benton and Gertha Ginn Benton.
Don owned and operated Benton Tire Company for many years in Downtown Goldsboro. Outside of his family, he loved nothing more than being outdoors, particularly walking his dog, Chance, hunting, or cooking up something on the grill. He was an avid fan of the North Carolina Tar Heels.
Don was well known in Goldsboro and loved by all who knew him. Growing up at First Free Will Baptist Church, Don’s church family was an extension of his own. His commitment to his church and his Prison Ministry conveyed his love for the Lord and his gratefulness for all of his blessings.
Don is survived by his son, Troy Tyson Benton and wife, Holly, of New Hill; daughter, Lindsey Benton Gardner and husband, Kevin, of Matthews; grandchildren, Elaine, Harper, Adeline, Lincoln and Emerson; sister, Anna Benton McFalls and husband, Russ, of Culpeper, VA; brothers, Dr. Kenneth Benton and wife, Marilyn, of Dunn, NC and Michael Benton and wife, Phyllis, of Danville, VA; his sweetheart Sydney Dupree and her son Jason; and several nieces and nephews who he adored.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 28, 2024, from 2:30 – 3:00 p.m. in the church parlor at First Free Will Baptist Church in Goldsboro followed by a Celebration of Life service in the sanctuary at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Otis Hamm officiating. Interment will follow at Willow Dale Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to First Free Will Baptist Church, 604 E. Ash Street, Goldsboro, NC 27530.
