March 14, 1929 – September 20, 2024
Betty Marie Sutton Arnette, 95, received her inheritance of life everlasting with her Lord on Friday, September 20, 2024. Betty was born in La Grange, NC to the late Thomas Henry and Mabel Rouse Sutton on March 14, 1929. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter D. Arnette; son, Jeffry T. Arnette; grandson, James E. Beverly; and siblings, A. J. Sutton, Leo Sutton, Thomas Sutton, Elizabeth S. Vick, Helen S. Howell, Edna Raye S. Dennis, and Sybil S. Cashwell.
Receiving her primary education in the public school system, Betty graduated from La Grange High School in 1947, where she was an astute scholar who was actively involved in the 4H club, Home Economics club, glee club, class treasurer, a student librarian, member of the high school yearbook committee, and earned senior superlative as “best looking”. She went on to graduate from Hardbarger Business College in Raleigh, NC.
Marrying her husband, Walter, Betty became a military wife and was both faithful and patriotic in her support for her family and our country. As a mother, she was all anyone could aspire to be, and as a friend, she was a gentle spirit with a sweet soul. With a large and dry sense of humor, Betty’s personality was uplifting and fun.
In her home, Betty’s family always enjoyed delectable meals around her table and knew their home would be in pristine condition. Always decorating for the holidays, Betty’s home was a welcoming and loving one.
With a great love for the outdoors, Betty spent much time gardening, tending to her flowers, and feeding the birds. Recognizing the beauty of the simple pleasures of life, she looked forward to preparing her bluebird box each spring, eagerly awaiting the arrival of a new family to grace her yard.
An avid reader, Betty filled much of her time enjoying journeys through novels of all kinds. Each evening was spent watching her favorite shows: Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, and then a long stretch of Fox News.
A longtime member of Adamsville Baptist Church, Betty was a Godly woman and devoted Christian who professed her faith openly through active participation in Sunday school and the church choir for many years.
A private graveside service was held at Fairview Cemetery.
Betty is survived by her loving and devoted daughter and caregiver, Paige M. Arnette, and her ever-loving grand-dog, Hope; additional children, Dr. Michael D. Arnette, Beverly A. Clayton, and Danny L. Arnette; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ruth S. Sexton.
