As flu season approaches and respiratory illnesses rise, the Wayne County Health Department is urging all residents, especially those in high-risk populations, to prioritize their health by getting a flu shot.
With the expected increase in cases this year, protecting yourself and your loved ones through vaccination is more important than ever.
“Based on current trends, I believe we will have a very active flu season,” said Suzanne LeDoyen, Health Director for Wayne County. “Getting your flu shot, along with other recommended vaccines, is crucial for staying healthy.”
The Wayne County Health Department offers flu vaccines Monday through Friday.
To schedule an appointment, call (919) 731-1000. Vaccination is especially important for high-risk populations, including individuals with diabetes, heart disease, lung diseases, pregnant women, and anyone with chronic conditions.
To help serve our older adults, the Health Department will kick off vaccinations at the Peggy M. Seegars Senior Center from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, offering flu, shingles, and pneumonia vaccines.
In addition to getting vaccinated, the Health Department recommends the following preventive measures:
- Wash your hands regularly with soap and water.
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing.
- Stay home if you are experiencing flu-like symptoms.
