Sherman Walter Ludwig, 83, passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at his home surrounded by family. Sherman was born in Keene, New Hampshire to the late Max Raymond Ludwig and Nettie Dean Ludwig on January 20, 1941. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Steve Howell; brother, Mark Ludwig; and grandson, Joey Centeno.

Sherman lived his dream proudly serving his country in the United States Air Force as a weather forecaster. He will always be remembered for his patriotism. Sherman protected his country and her allies on multiple deployments including two tours during the Vietnam War. Sherman’s valor and skill were recognized with numerous decorations. He retired from the Air Force on October 31, 1979, with the rank of Master Sergeant.

Following retirement, Sherman went to college to study in various subjects. Before retiring again, he was serving as a security computer monitor with Branch Bank and Trust Company in Wilson.

Sherman was a hard-working man, which was the theme of his life. He was the kind of man who was loyal to his family, who took great pride in caring and providing for them. Sherman also enjoyed his time and work with the M-25 Motorcycle Ministry at The First Pentecostal Holiness Church.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 26, 2024, from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a service to celebrate Sherman’s life at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel with his son, Rev. Michael Ludwig officiating. Interment will be at 12:00 p.m. in the Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.

Sherman is survived by his wife of almost 45 years, Nancy H. Ludwig; children, Steve Ludwig and wife, Betty, Michael Ludwig and wife, Rhonda, Deanna Fail, and Leigh Howell; sister, Nadine Enlund and husband, Leif; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given in Sherman’s memory to the Wounded Warrior Project.

Services are entrusted to Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
