September 18, 2024, 67, Goldsboro —
Billie Darden Lancaster, 67, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at her home. Billie was born in Wayne County to the late William Samuel Darden and Maggie Rebecca Gurley Smith on March 4, 1957. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved step-father, Devid Allen Smith, and brother, Marlon Mashea Darden.
Skilled with her hands, Billie was excellent at sewing. She loved to make things for her family and made sure that each was fitting for the recipient. Billie could also bake the best birthday cakes and was known for the way she would decorate them.
With a great love for her family, Billie looked forward to every opportunity to gather. Whether just with her siblings, her children, or the whole crowd, her happiest times were when surrounded by family.
Billie was fiercely independent and strong-willed, with a heart filled full of compassion and care for others. Known as Grandma Billie, she loved her children and grandchildren, as well as many other children with all she had. Billie will be remembered as a wonderful wife and mother but loved being a grandmother even more.
Billie was a frequent patron of McDonald’s in Goldsboro where everyone knew her by name and visited for the conversation as much as for the food.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 22, 2024, from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a service to celebrate Billie’s life at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel with Art Gurley officiating. Interment will be in Pikeville Cemetery.
Billie is survived by her husband of almost 48 years, James Curtis Lancaster, Jr.; sons, Keith Lancaster and wife, Sheri and Jamie Lancaster and wife, Natalia; step-son, Wesley Holland; grandchildren, Michael Keith Lancaster, Matthew Lancaster, Sarah Lancaster, and Maggie Lancaster; step-grandchildren, Erin, Eric, and Justin Holland; and sisters, Edlena Norman and Elgie Rebecca Holmes.
Flowers are welcome or memorials may be given in her memory to Alzheimer’s, Inc., 2245 Stantonsburg Road, C, Greenville, NC 27834.
Services are entrusted to Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
