Roy Eugene Ipock

September 4, 2024, 81, Kinston —

November 4, 1942 – September 4, 2024

Roy Eugene Ipock, 81, passed away on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. Roy was born in Lenoir County on November 4, 1942, to the late Walter Bray and Ruby Elliott Ipock. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two children, Terry Sue Hill and Michael Bray Ipock; and his siblings.

Working in construction his whole life, Roy was incredibly skilled and knowledgeable. His specialties included demolition and sewer pipe laying, trades in which he headed up several large contracts for companies and the state. With the ability to drive any heavy equipment, he was often sought after in his later years to provide guidance to younger workers on how to run the machinery without damaging the existing pipelines.

In earlier years, Roy was known to be able to cut a rug, dancing the nights away at Whichard’s Beach. No matter where he was, he was destined to have a good time. His skills as a poker player were second to none, and he was always ready for a game anywhere cards could be found.

Roy’s ability to work with numbers was just as great as his skill in construction. He could complete complex equations in his head and always come up with the right answer, especially if it dealt with money. When working for Barrus Construction, he was wanted in the office as much as in the construction zone for his mathematical abilities.

A service of love and remembrance will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home. The family will receive friends in the hour prior to service. Committal will follow the service at Pinelawn Memorial Park.

Roy is survived by his children, Roy Linn Ipock (Libby), Kelly Sabrina Ipock (Ashley), Dawson Dail Ipock, Bridget Ipock, and Brandi Stallings (Paul); grandchildren, Dale Weaver (Miranda), Katie Bass (Edgar Ardon), Christy Dawn Ipock (Vinny), Robert Linn Ipock, Sierra Logan Tripp, Shane Chase (Madison), Brooklynne Chase, Amelia Birdsong, Heaven Birdsong, Kaylee Stallings, Bray Stallings, Zachary Lemaster, Casey Renee Ipock, Michael A. Ipock, and Nicodemus Ipock; and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to extend their gratefulness to the many who have shown support to them during Roy’s illness.
