With profound sorrow and empathy, the staff and management of Williams & Ashford Funeral Directors join with Lanier and connected families to announce the earthly transition of Mr. Joseph Lanier, 84, of 504 Brock Rd., Goldsboro, NC, 27530. Mr. Lanier passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on September 1, 2024.
Mr. Joseph Lanier, 84, was born to the late John Lanier and Rachel Murray on October 11, 1939, in Duplin, NC. He received his boarding pass for the heavenly train on September 1, 2024, at home surrounded by his family.
Joe, as he was fondly called, was not just a family man. He was an active member of the community, known for his love of fishing, culinary skills, and his dedication to maintaining the beauty of our surroundings through his lawn care.
He was united in Holy matrimony to Betty Lanier on August 19, 1956; to this union, there were six children born.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lanier, his parents, John and Rachel Lanier, a daughter, Hilda R. Lanier, one grandson, Montrell Lanier, and one great-grandchild, Amiya Walker.
He leaves behind a large and loving family to cherish his memory: His sons, Joseph Lanier, Jr., and Donnie C. Lanier (Glenda), both of the home, and his three daughters, Delores A. Martin (Larry) of Mt. Olive, NC, Lora J. Walker (Melvin) of Goldsboro, NC, and Brenda G. Lanier of Temple Hills, MD. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Rachel Kornegay of Magnolia, NC; three special friends, Julia Whitfield, Will Faison, and Brett Smith, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends also mourn his passing.
Graveside Services will be observed on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at the Wayne Memorial Park – 2925 US-117, Dudley, NC 28333, There will be a visitation from 10 AM until 1045 AM at the Mausoleum Chapel prior to the service.
