Jimmy George Evans, 86, peacefully passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2024, at ECU Medicine Medical Center in Greenville, surrounded by his loving family. Jimmy was born in Wayne County on December 28, 1937, to the late George and Mattie Forehand Evans. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Peggy Bartlett Evans.

Jimmy retired from Dupont and was a member of Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church.

A service to celebrate Jimmy’s life will be held on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. at Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church with Pastor Josh Whitfield officiating. The family will receive friends in the hour before the service on Thursday from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. in the church fellowship hall. Interment will be on Friday, September 6, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park.

He is survived by his daughters, Patricia Edwards and husband, Donnie of Goldsboro, Kim Trent of Pikeville, and Sarah Sasser and husband, Brian of Fremont; sisters, Mattie Coor of Goldsboro and Pattie Smith of LaGrange; brother, Johnny Evans and wife, Frances of Faro; six grandchildren, Darian Nash and husband, Rich, Evan Trent and wife, Breanna, Hope Trent, Jacob Edwards, Johnathan Sasser, Karley Stith and husband, Andrew; and six great-grandchildren with one on the way.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given in his memory to Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church, 752 Stoney Creek Church Road, Goldsboro, NC 27530.
