On October 12, 1948, the late Benjamin Edwards, Sr., and the late Lillian Swinson Edwards were blessed with the birth of a beautiful daughter and named her Geraldine Edwards. Geraldine departed this life on August 21, 2024, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center at the age of 75.

She was the 8th of 10 children, eight of which preceded her in death Selmarie, John Wesly, Odell, Kenneth Ray, Joe James, Benjamin Jr., Dottie Lee, and most recently the Late Pastor Edmond E. Edwards.

Geraldine was married for 52 years to the great love of her life, Raymond Edward Pounds. To this union, one child was born, Stacy Pounds.

She grew up in the Pikeville, NC community and at a very early age joined the White Oak Grove OFB Church where she faithfully attended Sunday School and was a member of the Young Adult Choir. Later in life, she became a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Washington, DC.

Geraldine was educated in the Wayne County, NC Public Schools and was a 1966 graduate of Norwayne High School. Soon after graduation, she moved to Washington, DC where she began a career in housekeeping. Eventually, she became a housekeeper at the National Institute of Health (NIH) and retired after 17 years.

Geraldine loved her family dearly, and even with her own declining health she still tried diligently to maintain her home and to care for her husband. In her spare time, she loved reading a good book, listening to gospel music, talking to loved ones and friends on the phone, and looking at movies with her beloved daughter Stacy.

She leaves to cherish fond memories of her very outspoken and energetic life, her loving husband, Raymond E. Pounds of the home; her daughter, Stacy Pounds of Goldsboro, NC; a sister Doris Edwards Smith (Wayman) of High Point, NC; brother in law, Harry Pounds of Danville, VA; seven sisters in law, Nora Jean Edwards and Nellie Lee Edwards of Goldsboro, NC; Francis P. Garland, Shirley Logan, Edith Pounds Carter (Berlin) and Barbara Pounds of Danville, VA and Catherine Pounds Carter of Martinsville, VA; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
