August 23, 2024, 88, Mount Olive —

Doris Batchelor Cashwell, 88, native of Sampson County and long-time resident of Mount Olive, passed away late Friday afternoon, August 23, 2024, at Southwood Nursing Center in Clinton.

Mrs. Cashwell was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mount Olive and at one time, had been very active in the youth ministry of the church. More recent years found her in worship at Long Ridge Church where she would accompany Bryan and Beverly.   In her retirement years, she enjoyed fellowship at the Mount Olive Senior Center.  She was a licensed practical nurse with service in several physician’s offices, including  Henderson-Crumpler Clinic in Mount Olive where she assisted Dr. Warren Crumpler,  Next came Medical Park Nursing Home in Mount Olive.  Later she was employed with Southeastern Medical Oncology Center in Goldsboro with Dr. James Atkins and Dr. Lance Loomer, and had also assisted at UNC Heart and Vascular in Goldsboro before her retirement.

Mrs. Cashwell is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Bryan and Beverly Summerlin Cashwell of Mount Olive; a daughter and son-in-law, Beverly Cashwell Edgerton and Earl Edgerton of Wilmington; three grandchildren, Denise Cashwell Stoneham and husband, Taylor, Mercer Sneed, and Clayton Cashwell; four great-grandchildren, Kannon Jacobs, Wraith Hewett, Jackson Stoneham, and Norah Stoneham; a sister, Jean Batchelor of Raleigh; and a special caregiver, Patty Vonkchalee.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Murray C. Cashwell; her parents, Vernon Batchelor and Lilian Lynch Batchelor; and a sister, Joyce B. White.

Friends and family will gather on Monday, August 26, at 5:00 p.m. for a service of remembrance for the life of Mrs. Cashwell, which will be held at Long Ridge Free Will Baptist Church.  Officiating will be the Rev. Kelvin Coates.  Visitation with the family will follow the service.
