August 12, 2024, 75, Goldsboro —
Harry Eugene Thompson III, born in Washington, DC on April 8, 1949, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro on August 12, 2024. He is preceded in death by his father, Harry Eugene Thompson II, as well as his mother, Willa Dees Thompson. He was also preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Victoria Thompson.
Family was the cornerstone of Harry’s life; his greatest joy came from being with his loved ones. There was nothing he enjoyed more than sharing meals with those he loved, especially when you caught him in the mood to share stories of his life and travels growing up in a military family. His compassion for others, as well as being a man with high standards of integrity and morality, allowed him to form many meaningful connections in life, even in his last few months with us.
Harry was a man of simple pleasures and profound passions. An avid history enthusiast, he had a deep appreciation for classical television and movies. His love for nature was evident in his joy of walking and spending time outdoors. He delighted in traveling and long scenic drives, always eager to explore new places. At any age, he was always eager to experience and learn new things.
Harry was truly a patriot of our nation and he relentlessly supported the military through civil service. He dedicated 43 years as a Chief Financial Analyst for the 916th Air Wing out of Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro, NC. In fact, he very well may be the only person there to retire twice from the same position. The people he worked with and the work he was doing meant so much to him, that he wanted to hold on to it for as long as he was able.
Harry is survived by his devoted wife, Linda Westbrook Thompson; his children, Miranda Pejera (and grandchildren Logan, Mason, and Haley Pejera) and William Thompson; his grandson through Victoria, Daniel Meffen; his stepchildren, Lynn Westbrook (and grandchildren Steven and Stephenie Garris), Crystal and husband Chris West (and grandchildren Jacob and Derek West), Stacy Westbrook, and Tracy Westbrook (and grandchildren Kolton and Austin Westbrook); and his brother and sister-in-law Wayne and Jennifer Cook.
A funeral service to celebrate Harry’s life will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at 3:00 PM at Seymour Funeral Home in Goldsboro, NC.
Services are entrusted to Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
