August 4, 2024, 74, La Grange —
March 21, 1950 – August 4, 2024
Katherine “Kathi” Whaley Lane, 74, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 4, 2024. Kathi was born in Onslow County to the late Rayford Lee Whaley and Frances Omega Taylor Whaley on March 21, 1950.
Retiring from Cherry Hospital, Kathi spent 30 years in service to the healthcare community and the patients she served.
As a long-time member of Trinity Free Will Baptist Church, Kathi worshipped faithfully and offered her service by singing in the choir for as long as her health allowed.
With great love for her family, Kathi spent as much time with them as possible. A favorite pastime for Kathi and her husband, Max, was watching drag racing together. With her son-in-law, Desmond, the two always kept something going by joking with each other and cutting up. Her love for family knew no bounds.
Knowing her way around the kitchen, Kathi was quite the cook. While everything from her kitchen was good, she is remembered most fondly for her chocolate cake.
A service of love and remembrance will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home. Committal will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
Kathi is survived by her husband, Max Lane; daughter, Crystal Wooten and husband, Desmond; grandchildren, Kayla Wall and husband, Britt, Nicholas Wooten, and Michael Wooten; two special sisters-in-law, Joyce Mansfield and Faith Lancaster; a special cousin, Elaine Shepard; special family member, Sue Clark; special nephews, Scott Peele, Jeff Lane, and Mickey Lane; along with many extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends for a time of visitation on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home.
A deep gratitude is extended on behalf of the family for the nurses at East Carolina University Hospital Palliative Care, as well as the staff of DaVita for their continuous care of Kathi.
