Donald Claude Best

Donald Claude Best

July 24, 2024, 70, Goldsboro —

Donald Claude Best, 70, passed away unexpectedly at his home. Donald was born in Wayne County to the late Winston Parks Best and Ruth Ellis Best on December 8, 1953. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Maples Best, and son, Stephen James Minshew.

Donald was a farmer through and through. He had a love for the land that ran deep and he was happiest with his hands in the soil. Even after working the farm for hours a day, Donald still enjoyed going home to mow grass on his lawn mower. He took pride in the appearance of his yard and worked diligently to make it a place of peace and enjoyment.

He was a long-time member of Beston United Methodist Church (now known as Church of Beston). For many years, Donald served as a Sunday school teacher. Donald sought to serve the Lord with all he had for as long as he could.

Donald was a quiet and sometimes intimidating man when he first met someone. Once he grew to know you, Donald was a true friend. He was one who could be counted on and Donald enjoyed taking care of those around him. He always got much enjoyment from playing golf and when he could you could find him on the links sharing shots with his friends.

While Donald could be quiet and what some may call a bit stubborn, he was a completely different person with children. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for them, but the one who captured his heart would be his forever love, Wanda. Donald’s enjoyment of life and his love for his family will be missed.

A service to celebrate Donald’s life will be held by the graveside at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 29, 2024, in Wayne Memorial Park with Rev. Sherman Guthrie officiating. The family will greet friends following the service at the cemetery.

Donald is survived by his sister, Margaret Best Weaver; nephews, Brad Weaver and wife, Valerie and David E. Weaver; great-nephews, Tyler Lawrence Weaver and James Winston Weaver; and many other family members and friends he loved very much.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Donald’s memory to the Church of Beston, 2360 New Hope Road, LaGrange, NC 28551.

Services are entrusted to Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.seymourfuneralhome.com.
