Jo Ann McCabe Tart, 75, peacefully passed away on Monday, July 15, 2024, surrounded by her family. Jo Ann was born in Johnston County to the late Wilbert and Ila Mae Byrd McCabe on December 17, 1948. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Larry McCabe, and her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Inez and Braston Tart.

With a personality large enough to fill any space, Jo Ann could easily strike up a conversation with anyone. Never one to meet a stranger, she’d often take time to stop and speak a kind word to those she met—at church, around town, and even while at work.

Jo Ann had worked in real estate and was a successful realtor in Goldsboro for many years. She proudly served as the president of the Wayne County Board of Realtors and was honored by the board as Realtor of the Year.

A longtime member of Madison Avenue Baptist Church, Jo Ann faithfully served her Lord through the ministries of the church. She always looked forward to the opportunity of teaching and sharing God’s word with the children and youth at the church.

Jo Ann’s circle of friends was deeply treasured. While some of them had been friends since high school, she also had many friends from her involvement in the community of Goldsboro as a member of the American Business Women’s Association.

For Jo Ann, there was no greater blessing than that of her family. The love she had for Doug knew no bounds, and her children were so cherished. Her grandson held a special place in her life.

Throughout the years, Jo Ann offered help and encouragement to many. It’s no surprise that many were honored to help her through her years of declining health. The family especially wishes to thank the staff at Helping Hands, who were a constant support for her in the last years.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 18, 2024, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a service to celebrate Jo Ann’s life at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel with Rev. Aaron Bissette officiating. Entombment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Newton Grove, NC.

Jo Ann is survived by her husband of 54 years, Paul Douglas Tart; daughter, Amy Tart Carawan; son, Stephen Paul Tart and wife, Robin; and grandson, Cameron Blake Carawan.
