Angela Denise Gurley, 64, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Wayne County on October 7, 1959, she was the daughter of the late Billy Franklin and Patsy Creech Gurley.

In addition to her parents, Angie was preceded in death by her brothers, William Patrick “Pat” Gurley and Brent Gurley; niece, Brittany Gurley; great-nephew, Braxton Gurley; and her beloved canine companion, Rilee.

Angie is survived by her son, Hunter Britt (Hannah); sisters-in-law, Laura Gurley and Tammy Gurley; sister, Beverly Ann Deans; nieces, Kelli Hamm (Michael) and Lynsie King; nephew, Chad Gurley (Jessica); and several special aunts, uncles, cousins, and great nieces and nephews, and several close friends.

Angie retired as a patient access manager from Wayne Memorial Hospital after 38 years of dedicated service.

Angie was a dedicated and faithful member of Tabernacle Pentecostal Holiness Church where she was active in the Women’s Ministry. In 2023, she was recognized as the Tabernacle Pentecostal Holiness Church “Lady of the Year.”

Angie was an avid sports fan cheering on Duke and North Carolina State University men’s and women’s basketball teams. She had a love for all sports, especially softball, having played for several years.

Never idle, Angie loved to travel and experience the benefit of living in North Carolina where she could enjoy both the mountains and the beach, along with everything in between.

A service to celebrate Angie’s life will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 10, 2024, in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with Rev. Ronnie Heath, officiating. The family will receive friends in the hour prior to the service from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family will also be gathering at the home of Annette Gurley on Thursday, from 6:00 – 8:30 p.m. and Sunday from 6:00 – 8:30 p.m. Interment will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at the Pikeville Cemetery, 283 Mount Carmel Church Road, Pikeville, NC, with Rev. Rich Denning, officiating.

Angie’s family would like to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to Davita Dialysis and UNC Health Rex, Raleigh, for the care she received from their staff these last several months.
