Joseph “Joe” Rand Evans, 81, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, surrounded by his family. Born in Johnston County on March 29, 1943, he was the son of the late Cecil and Ethel Evans.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his first wife, Peggy Hawley Evans; son, David Allen; great-grandson, Kaden; brothers, Willie Evans, Carl Evans, Jimmy Evans, Glenn Evans, Kenneth Evans, and Harold Evans; and sisters, Peggy Hooks and Janice Evans.

Joe is survived by his wife, Julia Baker Evans; son, Rand Evans; grandchildren, Morgan Evans, Megan Evans, Zoey, Angel, and Racker; and nine great-grandchildren. Joe is also survived by his special canine companion, Blondie.

For many years, Joe worked as an HVAC technician. Even after Joe was unable to make house calls, people would still reach out to him for his expertise. Joe felt most comfortable outdoors. Nothing made him happier than being outside in a deer stand or running his dogs. Joe founded the church Highland Independent of Wilson. He loved playing music and serving the Lord. As a devoted Christian, Joe’s primary goal in life was to maintain a close relationship with his Lord. He lived his faith openly and would share with others often of his Lord and Savior.

A graveside service to celebrate Joe’s life will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Kenly Cemetery. The family will receive friends the evening prior, on June 7, 2024, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Kenly Funeral Service.
