Pedestrian Hit on Memorial Day by Teen Driver Dies from Injuries

On May 27 at approximately 1:43 p.m., officers from Goldsboro Police Department responded to the area of 1001 N. Spence Ave. in reference to a motor vehicle accident where a pedestrian had been struck.

While en route to the call, officers were notified that several witnesses called advising that the occupants of the suspect vehicle had fled the scene. Officers saturated the area and were able to quickly apprehend the occupants of the suspect vehicle.

EMS transported the victim, Christopher Hare, 58, Goldsboro, to UNC Health Wayne for treatment of his injuries. Hare was subsequently flown to ECU Health in Greenville for further treatment. 

On Monday, Hare succumbed to the injuries he sustained as a result of being struck by a motor vehicle.

On Wednesday, the 16-year-old suspect was charged with hit and run: driver’s failure to stop or remain at the scene with vehicle when personal injury or death occurs (felony). The suspect turned himself into the Magistrate’s Office where he was given no bond and transported to the Juvenile Detention Center in Greenville.
