Sallie Jane Powell Hodgin, 86, passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Wayne County on August 7, 1937, she was the daughter of the late James Robert Powell Sr. and Madge Sutton Powell.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by Her husband of 60 years, George Emerson Hodgin, Sr., her siblings, James R. Powell, Jr., A.C. Powell, John David Powell, Margaret Wells, Sandra Foss, Doris Cherry, and Dewey Lee Powell Sr.

Sallie is survived by her beloved children, Deborah Hodgin Welch and husband, Wade Dean Welch of Lucama and George Emerson Hodgin Jr. and wife, Jeanne Anders Hodgin of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Danielle Jane Sellers, Deanna Lee Cannon and husband John Zachary, George Hodgin III and wife Mindy, and Sarah Hodgin; great-grandchildren, Samuel Emerson, Amelia Jane, Hazel, George V and LJ; siblings, Joseph Powell and Willie Ray Powell, several nieces and nephews and other beloved relatives and friends.

Sallie was a trailblazer in the bridal industry. She had an eye for fashion and enjoyed being a part of making brides beautiful for their wedding day. She used her gift of fashion for over 62 years as the owner of Sallie’s Bridal Shop.

Along with fashion, Sallie loved her family. Her husband, children, and grandchildren were the loves of her life. She took great pride in caring for her family.

Sallie was a longtime member of the Goldsboro Friends Meeting. Serving as the chairperson on the finance, hospitality, and ministry council committees.

A service to celebrate Sallie’s life will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Cheryl Benson officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at Willow Dale Cemetery in Goldsboro.
