United States Air Force Chief Master Sargent (Retired) Walter (Butch) Martin

United States Air Force Chief Master Sargent (Retired) Walter (Butch) Martin passed peacefully at Wayne Memorial Hospital on May 15, 2024, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife Rose Tweedlie Martin, daughter Sabrina, son Christopher and his wife Stacey and two granddaughters, Bella & Scarlett, mother Carol E. Martin, and brother Steven. He was preceded in death by his father Glenn Dale Martin and stepfather Edward B. Comer. He and Rose married in 1978 and celebrated 45 years of marriage. Walter was born in Denison, Texas in 1958. He graduated from Goldsboro High School in 1975 and joined the USAF in February of 1976. He served his country for a total of 24 years and retired from the Air Force as a Chief Master Sergeant.

Walter joined the North Carolina Community College System in March of 2000 where he served the state for 24 years working for multiple state community colleges while finally retiring in March of 2024 at Wake Tech Community College in Raleigh, NC. During this time, he held many prestigious positions including Director, Dean of Business, and Provost. Walter also acquired numerous degrees including a Bachelor of Computer Science, a Bachelor of Information Systems, and a Master of Business Administration in Logistics.

Walter’s hobbies included playing golf, and racquetball, traveling with his family, fantasy football, and coaching sports with his children. He held a 3rd Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do. He loved his pets Max and Binx. His favorite holidays were Christmas and Halloween.

A celebration of life will be held on May 22, 2024, at 1:00 pm at Casey Funeral Home’s Chapel at 105 E 1st St, Princeton, NC 27569. A gathering of close friends and family will then follow for the graveside service at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery at 3888 Highway 70 West, Princeton, NC 27569.
