Deisa Carolina was born on August 20, 1960, in Brooklyn, New York to the late Gregorio Figueroa and Petra Aquino. She departed this earthly life on April 30, 2024.

Deisa Carolina attended Sarah J High School, Brooklyn, N.Y., and continued her higher education at Long Island College Brooklyn, N.Y. where she earned a B.S. in Business Administration. She joined the Army National Guard in 1980 and received an Honorable discharge in 1981. Deisa loved waitressing, which she admired and loved. Her interests included music, friends, racquetball, and swimming.  She loved to be a trendsetter and was not intimidated by her six-foot height.  Deisa was always family-oriented.  She loved her family.

Deisa and George met in N.Y. and found love and were united in Holy Matrimony in 1986 until death. George took care of his loving wife and never left her side. From this union, they were blessed with four boys and a girl. They are Shawnta, Torey, Corey (deceased twin), Mateo, and Ivorie Dale.  In the earlier years, the family attended the Church of God of N.Y.  After raising kids and living in N.Y. for many many years, they moved to Goldsboro, North Carolina for the warmer weather.  She loved and looked forward to enjoying the beach. Deisa was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, and a friend. She was a joy to be about and around. She had a sense of humor that would always make you laugh.

Deisa was preceded in death by her father and sister.  Deisa leaves to cherish her legacy of memories to her husband George Jr., sons, Shawntae Yelverton N.Y., Torey Yelverton N.Y., Corey Yelverton N.Y. (deceased), Mateo Yelverton, Orlando, Florida, Ivorie Dale Yelverton, Sevierville, Tennessee. Mother Petra Aquino and sister, Alma (BiBi) of Orlando, Florida, Melba Figueroa (deceased).

Her blended family Vanessa Yelverton N.Y, Chartarra Yelverton New Jersey, LaVar Yelverton Austin, Texas. Joyful memories from sister’s and brother-in-law, Joyce Yelverton Goldsboro, NC., Diana Carson Goldsboro, NC., Margie (Owen) Turner Smithfield, NC.

Lorice (Linwood) Worrells and Virginia (Leslie) King of Goldsboro, NC.  LaVohn (Lenzy) Houston Sydney, Australia), Ivory Joe (Elder) Lakeisha Yelverton Fayetteville, NC.  Three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and relatives.

Funeral service will be held Friday, May 10, 2024, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro. Burial will follow at Golden Gate Cemetery in Pikeville. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
