David William Gardner

David William Gardner

April 27, 2024, 69, Goldsboro —

David William Gardner, 69, fought the good fight and finished his course here on earth on Saturday, April 27, 2024, surrounded by his family. The gracious welcome home he received was without a doubt started by his Lord and followed quickly with an embrace from his parents, Jimmy and Susan Gardner, and sister, Nita G. Hedreen.

Always smiling, David was truly a people person. He enjoyed getting to know people and never met a stranger. David owned and operated D.G. Electric in Goldsboro. He was a skilled electrician for over 40 years, but his talents far exceeded his electrical skills. He was so good at what he did because of his precision and eye for detail. It was something you could count on, every single time.

David was kind, generous, and witty beyond compare. His infectious smile and huge laugh were enough of a greeting to become an instant friend with him. Known to enjoy life and have a good time, he would always keep something going. He was going to enjoy life and give 110% in good times and in bad.

While David’s genuine love for his friends was enormous, it paled in comparison to his love for his family. One can’t think of David without his wife, Cova, coming to mind. He was the best husband to Cova, happily married, partners in life, and the best of friends. The addition of their sons, Taylor and Hayden, completed their family and, for David, they were his whole world and biggest blessings until the birth of his beloved granddaughter. His most prized roles in life were husband to Cova, pops to Taylor, Mackenzi, and Hayden, and for sure pops to Eden.

David’s love for Jesus was shown naturally as he fulfilled the commandment to love neighbor as self. He was a member of Love Memorial Baptist Church. Perhaps without even realizing the impact of his actions, David spread love to all he met as a fisher of men so that even in a stranger, people could find a generous friend. Having spread tremendous joy, David leaves an equal void.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home. A service to celebrate David’s life will be held on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. in the sanctuary of Love Memorial Baptist Church with Pastor Richard Toler officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

David is survived by his wife of 37 years, Cova Howell Gardner; sons, Taylor Gardner and wife, Mackenzi and Hayden Gardner; granddaughter, Eden Scout Gardner; and brother, Gregory Lee Gardner.
