William (Billy) E. Potter went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, April 22, 2024. Billy was born in Lenoir County, NC on September 9, 1934.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Annie Potter, and his brother, Donnie Potter.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Edna A. Potter of La Grange, NC; his daughters, Jan Potter Prevo of Clayton, NC and Julie Potter Rouse and her husband, Herb, of La Grange, NC; six grandchildren, Ashley Prevo Hester (and her husband, Ken), Megan Prevo Worley (and her husband, J.R.), William Franklin Prevo, Macy Nicole Rouse, Avery Grace Rouse, and Lexy Reese Rouse; and three great-grandchildren, Isaac James Hester, Madelyn Hope Hester, and Emmett Boone Worley.

Billy treasured his time and memories serving in the US Coast Guard. He loved woodworking, fishing, spending time with his family, and studying the Bible. He was a member of Bethel Free Will Baptist Church of Kinston, NC for over 50 years.

In his final years, Billy and Edna spent time at the beach by the pier playing the song “Under the Boardwalk,” which they both enjoyed immensely.

Visitation will take place on Sunday, April 28, 2024, at 2 PM followed by a funeral service at 3 PM at Rouse Funeral Home, 108 N Caswell Street, La Grange, NC 28551. A graveside service will follow immediately after at Westview Cemetery in Kinston, NC.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honor of William (Billy) E. Potter to the USCGC Ingham Memorial Museum, the ship Billy was stationed on during his time in the US Coast Guard.
