April 12, 2024, 61, Goldsboro —

Judith Fay Shumate Herlihy, age 61, left all her pain and suffering behind and into the arms of Christ on April 12, 2024, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. Judy was born on July 25th, 1962 in Wayne County to the late Charles Wayne Shumate and Shirley Spanos Shumate. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Harry Spanos and Mr. & Mrs. Harry Shumate, Sr.

Judy graduated from UNC Wilmington and worked for over thirty years in mental health. She loved serving the people of Eastern North Carolina.

A service to celebrate Judy’s life will be held on Friday, April 19th at 11:00 am in the chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home with Pastor Wright Shumate officiating. The family will greet friends following the service at the funeral home.

In addition to her mother, Judy is survived by her children, Dr. Lillie Herlihy Campbell and her husband, Ryan and Joseph H. Herlihy and his fiancée, Isabela Palmieri; a granddaughter, Maggie Mae; her brothers, Thomas W. Shumate and Wright M. Shumate and his wife, Rhonda and their daughter, Amber; her sisters, Debra Shumate Warren and husband, Bob and their son, Michael Warren and wife, Aly and their children, Athena and Maverick; Susan Shumate Sharpe and her children, Heather Sharpe and husband, Steve Sheller and Stephanie Sharpe Salazar and husband, Mario Salazar and Ryan Sharpe; she is also survived by her cousins and her good friend, Caroline Hinson.
