Rachel Hildreth Hancock

Rachel Hildreth Hancock

April 12, 2024, 80, La Grange —

September 22, 1943 – April 12, 2024

Rachel Hildreth Hancock transitioned to her Heavenly home in the early hours of Friday, April 12, 2024. She was born in Union County to the late John and Anna Hildreth on September 22, 1943. In addition to her parents, Rachel was preceded in death by her siblings, Basel, Warren, Andrew and Edward Hildreth, Janie Sides, and Mary F. Turner; as well as her beloved dog, Buddy.

With a marriage lasting nearly 63 years, Rachel and her husband, Mickey, built a life they loved. She was a loving mother to her three children and the best “Grandma” her grandchildren could ask for. She always took an interest in their hobbies and supported them lovingly. Rachel’s fur-baby, Maggie, meant the world to her and she spoiled her like a child.

No one’s cooking compared to Rachel’s. She enjoyed preparing meals and watching her family enjoy each dish. A fan of the Duke Blue Devils, her support only waivered when they lost and she needed to pull for State. She was employed with Lenoir County Public Schools for nearly 19 years and was a longtime member of Harper Southern Presbyterian in Albertson.

A service of love and remembrance will be held at Rouse Funeral Home on Monday, April 15, 2024, at 2 p.m., with committal following at Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation in the hour before the service, as well as other times at the home.

Rachel is survived by her husband, Larry Gene “Mickey” Hancock, Sr.; children, Debra Hancock (Randy), Larry Hancock, Jr. (Judy), and John Hancock (Jeanna); grandchildren, Harley Hancock, Larry “Trey” Hancock, III (Kayla), and Zachary Hancock (McKenzie); siblings, Dorothy Carpenter, Lenoard Hildreth, and J.T. Hildreth; and step-sister, Jean Morris.

Contributions in Rachel’s memory may be made to the Lenoir County SPCA.
