Mrs. Josephine Powell Stephenson Johnson, a Mount Olive resident, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Kitty Askins Hospice.

A native of Fayetteville, in her adulthood, she lived in Spring Lake, Goldsboro, and Mount Olive.

An astute businesswoman, she retired from Carolina Power and Light Company as district manager, and she held the distinction of being the first female district manager within the company.

Prior to her employment with Carolina Power and Light, she had worked at a Fort Bragg bank, which was followed by a tenure of service with Tart T.V.

Mrs. Johnson was a member of Trinity Methodist Church at Magnolia and was church secretary and treasurer at the time of her death. She had held a long-time presence on the board of directors for Home, Health, and Hospice (3HC), Mount Olive Family Medicine Center, and numerous other entities.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Teresa Lynn “Teri” Stephenson; her husbands, William Gene Stephenson and Amos Johnson; her parents, Willliam Howard Powell and Vinnie Johnson Powell;  a toddler brother, Johnny Powell; and a nephew, Jonathan Welch.

Survivors include three step-sons, Jay Johnson and wife, Karen, of Jacksonville, Fla., Edward S. Johnson of Four Oaks, and Keith Johnson of Horseshoe; two sisters, Patricia P. Welch of Mount Olive, and Fay P. Raynor of Eastover; two grandchildren, A. J. Johnson, serving in the U.S. Navy, and Susanna Johnson of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters-in-law, Mary J. Flowers of Hope Mills and Susan Grooms of Calif.; nieces and nephews, Melissa Ham of Hope Mills, Christopher Welch and wife, Addie, of Cummings, Ga., Todd Raynor of Austin, Texas, Brandon Raynor of Eastover, Jimmy McDonald, and Stacy Williams; and great-nieces and great-nephews, Cameron Renfrow, Lorissa Hawkins, Greenlee Welch and Georgia Welch, both of Cummings, Gates Raynor of Greenville, SC, and Bailey Raynor of Va.

Visitation will be Wednesday, April 10, beginning at 11 a.m. with funeral services to follow at 12:00 Noon at Tyndall Funeral Home. Officiating will be the Rev. Wanda Simmons. A graveside committal service will be at 3:00 p.m. at Lafayette Memorial Park in Fayetteville. Officiating will be Rev. Matthews.
