April 8, 2024, 87, Goldsboro —

James Whitley “J.W.” Grant, 87, passed away into that far better life with his Lord and Savior on Monday, April 8, 2024, at Wayne UNC Healthcare. J.W. was born in Wayne County to the late Raymond E. Grant and Lois Whitley Grant on August 27, 1936. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Vaughan Grant; sister, Lorraine Kearney and brother, William “Billy” Grant.

J.W. worked as a truck driver for most of his life and was known for his ability to do almost anything he wanted to. He had an excellence in all the work he did and this showed in his ability to build his own home which is located where he lived all of his life. J.W. enjoyed surf fishing and his music of choice was always Gaither music.

J.W. never met a stranger. He could carry on a conversation with anyone and seemed to be able to pull the good out of so many. He was one of the most giving people, yet would often give in secret. He never wanted recognition, he simply wanted to help others. J.W. loved the Lord and sought to follow God by serving Him and others. Many have experienced the support, encouragement, and love shown by J.W. He gave all of himself to take care of those around him.

The family will receive friends on Monday, April 15, 2024, from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a service celebrating J.W.’s life at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel with Rev. Tim Grant officiating. Interment will be in Wayne Memorial Park.

J.W. is survived by his children, Kimberly D. Grant of Goldsboro, Kelly Ziegler and husband, Jason of Goldsboro and Ricky Teel and wife, Kriss of Pikeville, his grandchildren, Metta DeLeon, Garrett Pyle, Bella Teel, and Sawyer Teel; and several nieces and nephews he loved very much.
