George David “Dave” Bizzell

George David “Dave” Bizzell

March 30, 2024, 80, Goldsboro —

George David “Dave” Bizzell, 80, was welcomed into his Savior’s arms on Saturday, March 30, 2024. He was born on September 24, 1943, in Anderson, South Carolina to the late Paul Sutton Bizzell of Goldsboro and Rose V. Peterson of St. Petersburg, Florida.

Dave served our country valiantly as a medic in the Army National Guard during the Vietnam War. His love of his country never wavered, and his commitment to the United States was evident to all.

Following his honorable service, Dave entered into work with the US Postal Service as a Postmaster. After a 33-year tenure, Dave retired from the Post Office in Lucama and went to work for his son at Transport Insurance. There, he served as office manager and continued employment for an additional ten years.

A member of the Bridge Church in Princeton, Dave used his gifts to further the ministry of the church through service as a deacon, usher, sound tech, and helping with the senior’s ministry. He found his calling serving on the board of The Golden Chosen Senior Ministry. No matter the task at hand, Dave was always willing to serve, believing it was his duty to answer the call of our Lord through service.

With a love of the water, boating, and fishing were at the top of Dave’s hobby list. If a NASCAR race was on television, Dave would be watching. Travel around the country to see all the beauty that God had made became a great love once Dave had more time in his retirement years. One of his favorite trips included traveling to Hawaii to visit his daughter and son-in-law. He also enjoyed many memories of traveling to the mountains with his wife, sister-in-law, Betty, and brother-in-law, Larry.

Working alongside his son, Dave rebuilt an old car from scratch, converting it into a race car for his son. This car went on to win many races. Dave’s family was proud of his abilities, for he could take something that appeared to have no value and turn it into a treasure that would last for years to come.

With a heart for serving, Dave always placed others before himself. Never one to be in the spotlight, he quietly attended to the needs of family, friends, and strangers, offering whatever he could to make a difference.

With great love for his family, Dave cherished each title, including father and husband. For 58 years, he was proud to be known as the husband of Leora.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 4, 2024, from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. at The Bridge – Princeton Campus followed by a service to celebrate Dave’s life at 6:30 p.m. in the sanctuary with Pastor Andy Stovall officiating. Please practice social distancing when speaking with Leora at the visitation. Interment will be at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, April 5, 2024 in the Eastern North Carolina State Veteran’s Cemetery with military honors.

Dave is survived by his wife, Leora Johnson Bizzell; children, Jim Gillikin and wife, Trish, Pam Bizzell Burnette and husband, Neil, and David Paul Bizzell and wife, Adrienne; grandchildren, Jamie G. Cooper and husband, Ashley, Jessica G. Nietschmann and husband, Adam, Kelly Head Lancaster and husband, Justin, Danielle G. Kennedy and husband, Joseph, Joshua A.
