Lorita Huffines Fulghum

March 25, 2024, 71, La Grange —

November 14, 1952 – March 25, 2024

Lorita Huffines Fulghum went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 25, 2024. She was born in Nashville, TN to the late Cora Edwards Goodman and Morris Goodman, Sr. on November 14, 1952. In addition to her parents, Lorita was preceded in death by her daughter, Malissa Smith; granddaughter, Lindsey Johnson Whitley; and brother, Thomas Goodman.

Never one to meet a stranger, Lorita would strike up a conversation with everyone she came in contact with. She was a beloved server at the café in Neuse Sport Shop for many years. Its patrons knew her by name and visited for the conversation as much as for the food. Whether working or out and about, Lorita always looked her best. Her teased hair and winged eyeliner were her signature style well before it became a popular trend.

Though her opinions were strong and would, without doubt, be heard, Lorita believed in honesty and doing the right thing. Whether from intrigue or disdain, Lorita’s cocked eyebrow often spoke her mind before her lips. She believed in the Word of God and spent time in scripture every morning when she awoke. She rarely missed a sermon by Steven Furtick and enjoyed his sermons and services on television. A fan of Westerns and Little House on the Prairie, Lorita could often be found enjoying a good show and a hot cup of coffee.

Only second to God was Lorita’s family. She was a loving mother and treasured her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as precious jewels. While she is gone temporarily from sight, Lorita will forever remain in their hearts and memories.

A time of visitation will be held at Rouse Funeral Home on Friday, March 29, 2024, from 2-3:30 p.m.

Lorita is survived by her daughter, Michelle Matthews Johnson; grandchildren, Scotty Johnson (wife and children), Grace Johnson, Briana Johnson (daughter, Rosalee), Shannon Herring (husband, Tyler Herring and children, Malachi, Douglas, Camden and Kylie), Tabatha Barwick (husband, Justin, and children, Colton and Harper), as well as great-grandchildren, Isabella Whitley, Anthony Whitley, and Ruth Ann Whitley; former son-in-law, Douglas Whaley; and five siblings.

Online condolences may be expressed at www.rousefh.com.

Arrangements are entrusted to Rouse Funeral Home, La Grange.
