March 8, 2024, 51, Goldsboro —
Julie Ann Lee, 51, was welcomed into the arms of her Savior on Friday, March 8, 2024, while being cared for at Duke University Hospital. She was born in Fayette County, West Virginia to the late Orval Milburn Reed and Phyllis Ann Reed on August 12, 1972. In addition to her parents, she was recently preceded in death by her brother, Mitch Reed.
Julie graduated from Wayne Community College with an associate in criminal justice as well as an associate in nursing. Julie then began life after college as a nurse. Later on, she served as a nurse consultant with Walker, Allen, Grice, Amons, and Foy, LLP. While she loved her job at the law office, but was ready to put her hands back into patient care… Julie worked as a patient care manager at Gentiva Hospice in Goldsboro up until her diagnosis. While working for Gentiva, Julie obtained her bachelor’s in nursing from the University of Mount Olive in 2022.
As often as she could, she would make a trip to the beach. This was her happy place and somewhere she found peace, calm, and tranquility.
Julie had a gift for crafting. She could take simple things that didn’t seem to come together and create something beautiful. This brought joy to her soul. Faith was a guiding light throughout Julie’s life. She was a faithful member of Calypso Baptist Church. She fulfilled many roles and served in any way she could. Julie was always the designated art teacher for Bible School for many years. Julie had a heart for service and used her many gifts for the Lord. This was evidenced in her love for her patients and their families while at her time with Gentiva Hospice. Julie served on the board at Mount Olive Family Medicine from 2021-2023. This was also portrayed heavily within her community. Julie had a servant’s heart.
Julie’s life was a testament to her faith, her courage, and most of all, her love. She was a gift and encouragement to more than she realized. Her legacy will continue to be a bright light for so many.
A service to celebrate Julie’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at The First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Goldsboro with hospice chaplains, Ramon Mizell and Allen Strickland, officiating. Interment will be in Wayne Memorial Park.
Julie is survived by her husband of nine years, Dwayne Lee; children, Courtney Butler and fiancée, Chandler Gentry, Whitley Butler, Hannah Hood, and husband, Garrett, and Gavin Lee; and brothers, Richard Reed and Joe Reed. Nephews: Chris Reed and Kyler Reed. Special family members: Terry Reed and Drema Reed. She is also survived by her grand dogs, Maisey, Willow, and Maverick.
