Michael Edward Kiewert

March 6, 2024, 64, Goldsboro —

“Having God in your boat doesn’t mean that you’ll not face any storms. It means that no storm can sink your boat. Walk in faith and you will never walk alone.”

On March 6, 2024, Michael Edward Kiewert, 64, sailed from the storms of this life into the peaceful waters of his heavenly home. For the last few years, Mike weathered the turbulent disease, Leukemia, and was cured. However, other medical issues, including Graft Host disease, arose from having a bone marrow transplant, attacking his lungs. Although he spent more time at Duke than at home, he fought his battle with bravery, love, and never complaining.

Mike was a hard worker, woodworker, avid boater, and beach lover. He could fix, design, and build anything. He was a jokester and always kept you laughing. He loved eating at the Western Sizzlin with family and joking with Terri Tittle, his favorite server. He was a deeply devoted husband, father, and friend. He loved his wife, children, and grandchildren with all his heart.

Mike was born in Alabama on October 1, 1959, to the late, Burt and Shirley Law Kiewert. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Kiewert. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Kimberly Kiewert, of Goldsboro; son, Stephen Kiewert of the home; son, Scott Kiewert, and wife, Claire, of Holly Springs; two brothers, Ken Kiewert of Goldsboro and Marc Kiewert of Fremont; grandchildren, Benjamin Kiewert, Ellie Kiewert, Morris Williford, and Fancy Rose Williford; and his beloved trusting canine companion, Dakota. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Randy McCullen and wife, Marcia of Princeton; Dennis McCullen and wife, Wanda of Goldsboro; and his sister-in-law, Patricia Harris Kiewert of Goldsboro; along with family in Alabama and North Carolina.

No formal services. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
