Jack Randall Sutton, 97, was born in his family’s homestead, built by his father, on November 24, 1926. He quietly passed from this life in the same home on March 2, 2024. He was the son of the late Charles Andrew Sutton and Betty Barwick Sutton. In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by two children, Jackie Sutton and Randall Keith Sutton; grandson, James Michael Sutton, his first wife, and mother of his children, Sadie Stanton Sutton; and siblings, Helen Sutton, Allie Sutton, Zell S. Hobson, Pauline S. Sutton, Woodrow Sutton, Lorena S. Sutton, John C. Sutton, Hugh E. Sutton, Lenora Yates, Grace Sutton, and Wilton Sutton.
Jack served his country in the Infantry of the United States Army and was a proud veteran of World War II. Following his time in the military, Jack returned home to Bucklesberry to work on the family farm. His life from that point forward centered on his family, farm, and faith. He was a lifelong member of Hickory Grove United Methodist Church and was always present to worship amongst those of like faith.
A servant in every aspect, Jack was proud to be a member and leader of several community organizations. He was a Mason for 53 years and received the honor of 32nd Degree Mason. As a Past Master at Lodge Lenoir 233 in La Grange, Jack continued to participate in Radiance Lodge 132 and Richard Caswell Lodge 705, and Scottish Rites Freemasonry as a Shriner. Jack also served twice as president of the Bucklesberry Ruritan Club.
A service of love and remembrance will be held at Rouse Funeral Home on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at 1 p.m. The family will receive friends in the hour prior to the service. Committal will be held at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Kinston.
Jack is survived by his sweetheart and bride of over 46 years, Sue Foyles Sutton; two sons, Michael S. Sutton, and Dallas A. Sutton; grandchildren, Rachel Soltiz, Christopher Scott, and Lee Anne Scott; and two great-grandchildren, Bella Sutton and Hannah Sutton Soltiz.
