February 7, 2024, 84, Goldsboro —

Charles “Buddy” Eldra Fail, 84, passed away at his home on Wednesday, February 7, 2024.  He was born on October 10, 1939, in Wayne County to the late Eldra Dixon Fail and Eunice Estelle Summerlin Fail.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter, Paula Jo Godwin; brothers, Richard Fail and Glenn Fail;  and great-grandson, Daryll Godwin, Jr.

Buddy retired from the City of Goldsboro after 22 years.  At home, he was a farmer and loved making things with his hands.  He enjoyed his tractors, animals, and anything to do outside, but most importantly he loved spending time with his grandchildren.  Buddy was a “Papa” to everybody.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Bertie JoAnne Fail; daughter, Wendy Fail Matthiessen and husband, George of Princeton; grandchildren, Amanda Jo Lane, Josh Lane and wife Lynne, Joseph Mitchell and wife Taylor, Daryll Godwin, Chelsea Bostic and husband Steven, Justin Godwin and wife Shelby, Harley Wise and husband Lochlan; great-grandchildren, Cheyenne, Parker, Charlotte, Maci, Wyatt, Charles, Grant, Liam, Paisley, Abel, Athena, and Cecilia; sister, Margie Murray, and husband, E. C. and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Monday, February 12, 2024, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Casey Funeral Home and Cremations.

The funeral will be held in the chapel of Casey Funeral Home and Cremations at 7:00 pm on Monday, February 12, 2024, with Pastor Joshua House officiating.  The burial will take place in the Hastings Cemetery at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, February 13, 2024.
