Motorcyclist Leads Sheriff's Deputies on High-Speed Chase

On Feb. 9 at approximately 8 p.m. members of the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office DWI Task Force were conducting a saturation patrol in the area of Interstate 795 when a motorcycle passed deputies at a high rate of speed.

Deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the motorcycle but failed to stop, resulting in a vehicle pursuit.

The pursuit reached speeds over 100 mph. During the pursuit, Barrett Tyler Powell, 32, Elm City, attempted to discard a bookbag he was wearing. Law enforcement was able to retrieve the bookbag, where they located a large amount of narcotics.

The pursuit ended in the city limits of Goldsboro, where Powell was taken into custody. Powell is being charged with Felony Flee to Elude, PWISD Marijuana, Felony Possess Marijuana, Maintain Vehicle
use of Controlled Substances, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Powell was being held under an $85,000 bond.
