13-Year-Old Shot Early Monday Morning While Committing Crime

On Monday morning at approximately 2:30, officers with the Goldsboro Police Department responded to an alert from the ShotSpotter gunfire detection system in the 400 block of Seymour Drive.

Once on the scene, officers located a 13-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound. Deputies with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist officers on the scene.

During the preliminary investigation, it was determined that the 13-year-old was shot while committing a crime against a known offender.

The known offender was the victim of the crime and is cooperating fully with law enforcement. No charges are being filed at this time pending consultation with the District Attorney’s office once the investigation is complete.

Wayne County EMS arrived and transported the 13-year-old to UNC Health Wayne. He was then transferred to ECU Health for further treatment and is currently listed in critical condition.
