Wayne County Public Library Receives Mobile Unit

Beginning this spring, the Wayne County Public Library will debut its new mobile library when they visit local festivals and events where the community will be able to see the vehicle and learn more about library services.

This vehicle will allow the county to deepen the impact of existing library services and expand the library’s mission of bringing people together to explore, discover, and connect.
“We are happy to see this vehicle come to Wayne County,” said County Manager Chip Crumpler. “We
appreciate the Board of Commissioners, the Wayne County Public Library Foundation, and the State
Library of North Carolina for seeing this project as a need for Wayne County and providing funding to
make this possible.”

Donna Phillips, library director, said, “The mobile library project is a wonderful example of what can be
accomplished through public-private partnership. This mobile library is truly a gift to our community,
one that will have a deep and lasting impact.”

This summer, the library will launch mobile library services to more rural communities within the
county, such as Dudley and Grantham. Expanding beyond the traditional bookmobile, the mobile library will serve as a mobile resource center for these communities, bringing access to library programs, services, Wi-Fi, and trained professionals.

“The library is pleased to announce a new partnership with the Cliffs of the Neuse State Park that will allow the library to deliver environmental education programs in the park to children and their families through the use of our mobile library. The program’s goal is to educate and inspire children to grow to become good stewards of our natural and cultural resources.”

Community members are invited to visit the Daffodil Festival, Pickle Festival, or Touch-a-Truck to
experience the mobile library’s offerings.

The addition of this service is made possible by a partnership between Wayne County Public Library
Foundation, Inc. and the County of Wayne. Additionally, this project is made possible by funding from
the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) under the provisions of the Library Services
and Technology Act (LSTA) as administered by the State Library of North Carolina, a division of the
Department of Natural and Cultural Resources (IMLS grant number LS-250229-OLS-21
