Nellie Mae Roberts

January 30, 2024, 85, Las Vegas —

Nellie Mae Roberts, 85, a long-time resident of Mount Olive, NC, was born August 14, 1938, in Wayne County, NC.  She passed away on January 30, 2024, in Las Vegas, Nevada where she had been residing for the last several years to be near her daughter.

Nell was preceded in death by her parents, Jehu Jessup Hollowell, Jr. and Bernice Britt Hollowell; her former spouse and friend, Robert Roberts; and her sisters, Joyce H. Meyers and Joanne H. Walker.

She is survived by her daughter, Rene` Roberts, and son-in-law, Don Brkovich, both of Las Vegas; and several nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Nell had been a dedicated employee, working as a nurse for 21 years at Medical Park Nursing Center in Mount Olive, and for eight years at the N. C. Department of Corrections at Maury, NC.  Throughout her working career, Nell provided compassionate care, and her life was rewarded by the many lives she touched.

She never met a stranger and as a result, had many friends.  She loved adventure and was always looking for her next travel destination.

Her most treasured accomplishment in life was being a mother to Rene`, who was her pride and joy.  Just the mention of Rene`’s name made Nell’s eyes light up.  She and Rene` had a special bond and shared many wonderful memories together.  One of her favorites was the day Rene` and Don married.  Nell adored and loved Don, welcoming him as her son.

Nell was a loving mother and sister, and a devoted friend.  She will be deeply missed, but in our hearts and memories, she lives daily until we meet again in heaven.  Nell rests eternally with the Lord and Savior.

Visitation with Nell’s family will be at Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive on Saturday, February 10, beginning at 12:30 p.m. with services to celebrate her life to follow at 1:30 p.m.  Officiating will be Elder Dorothy McDaniel.  Several favorite hymns will be rendered by Regina McDaniel.  Following the service, burial will be at Wayne Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society.

“Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.”
