Lylton Ray “Stump” Thigpen

Lylton Ray “Stump” Thigpen, 73, of near Harrells, went to be with his Lord and Saviour Sunday afternoon, February 4, 2024.  He was received from his earthly home into heaven.

Mr. Thigpen had served in the United States Navy.  His career in law enforcement included a short stint of service with the Faison Police Department, a lengthy tenure of service with the Warsaw Police Department, and included a stint with the Calypso Police Department where he was chief.   Lylton was a member of Faison Bible Holiness Church and was an accomplished singer and musician who used his talents for the Lord.

Funeral services will be on Tuesday, February 6, at 6:00 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive.  Officiating will be the Rev. Ken Simmons and the Rev. Ricky Jacobs.  A time of visitation with the family will follow the service.  Burial will be in the Faison Cemetery in Faison on Wednesday, February 7, following an 11:00 a.m. committal.

Survivors include his wife of more than 54 years, Julia Millard Thigpen of the home; a son, Douglas Thigpen with wife, Cindy, of Mount Olive; a daughter, Lori Thigpen Jernigan of Faison; grandchildren, Julie Thigpen Stanley with husband, Charles, Cameron Thigpen with wife, Amber, Mikayla Cavenaugh, and Jayden Jernigan; a sister, Kathy Thigpen of Calypso; two brothers, Jeff Thigpen with wife, Kim, of Kenansville, and Steve Thigpen with wife, Teresa, of Calypso; and members of the Millard family.

He was preceded in death and joins in heaven, his parents, Arthur Thigpen and Lettie Taylor Thigpen.
