February 3, 2024, 78, Mount Olive —

James Lewis Underhill, better known as Peanut Underhill, 78, passed away Saturday afternoon, February 3, 2024, at the home of his son.

Mr. Underhill called the Rones Chapel community near Mount Olive, home.  He had served in the United States Air Force, and for most of his working career, he was an eddy current technician.

Surviving him are his son and daughter-in-law, James Lewis Underhill, Jr. and Alicia Underhill, of the Grantham community; two granddaughters, Emma Underhill of Spring Lake, and Ava Underhill of Grantham; a brother and sister-in-law, David and Nancy Underhill of the Rones Chapel community; a sister, Iris Underhill Pate of near Calypso; beloved nieces and nephews, Lynn Pate, Denise Pate, Janet Pate Godbold, Don Pate, Dave Underhill, Leigh Ann Underhill, Rob Faulk, and Sue Faulk Spicer, and their families.

Mr. Underhill joins in death, his parents, Elwood and Sally Christine Williamson Underhill; and a sister, Betty Lou Underhill Fauik.

A gathering for family and friends will be Thursday, February 8, from 2 until 4 p.m. at the home of David and Nancy Underhill.
