Mrs. Doris Whaley Pate passed from her aged body with its many health complications to receive eternal life with the Lord on Thursday, February 1, 2024.  She was 89.

Mrs. Pate, a native of Beulaville, had been a resident of the Oak Ridge/Brock’s Chapel area for many years.  She was a member of Brock’s Chapel Church and in past years, had been a Sunday school teacher, a member of the church choir, and had been involved with the women’s ministries of the church. Being the fine Christian that she was, she put God first in everything that she did. 

Services to celebrate the life of this humble servant of God and to bring praise to His name will be Sunday, February 4, at 3 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home.  Officiating will be the Rev. Glenn Pate and the Rev. David Pate.  Burial will follow at Pate Cemetery with the Rev. Jeff Bartlett presiding at the committal rites.  Visitation will be at the funeral home during the hour before the service.  At other times, the family will be at the home of Carrie Mae Pate.  Flowers are welcome, or memorial gifts may be made to

Mrs. Pate leaves behind seven of her eight children and their spouses, Wanda Pate Goforth and Brad Goforth, of Matthews, the Rev. Glenn Pate and Vickie Pate of Pikeville, Joe Pate and Mary Pate of Greensboro, Betty Pate Baker, and Steve Baker, of Wilmington, Roger Pate and Nola Pate of Mount Olive, Dennis Pate and Felicia Pate of Clayton, and Ed Pate and Lorie Pate of Washington, NC; a son-in-law, Adolph Sadler, Jr. of Chocowinity; two sisters-in-law, Carrie Mae Pate of Mount Olive, with whom Doris had made her home for the last several years, and Harriet Pate Taylor and husband, Emmett, of Kinston.

Also surviving are grandchildren, Ben Goforth and wife, Sonja, Sallie Goforth Kegarise and husband, Alex, Timothy Goforth and wife, Allison, the Rev. David Pate, and wife, the Rev. Tabitha Pate, Jennifer Pate Lane and husband, Jonathan, Todd Pate and wife, Amanda, Mary Elizabeth Pate Andreyev and husband, Alex, Amanda Pate Cherry and husband, Travis, Brandon Pate and wife, Kim, Sara-Ann Pate, Carly Pate, Kimery Beacham Gregory, Leah Sadler, and Steven Sadler; and great-grandchildren, Nora and Zoe Goforth, Jackson and James Kegarise, Aiden Goforth, Russell Pate, Annabelle and Willow Lane, Casey, Charli, and Colbie Pate, Ayden Andreyev, Maddie Quinn, Lily Herring, Clay, Hannah, and Trent Cherry, Hayden Gregory, Savannah Beacham, Justus, and Jonas Beacham, and Kastle Beacham.

She joins in death, her husband, Russell Pate; a daughter, Ann Pate Sadler; her parents, Ophas and Dora G. Whaley; a sister, Shirley W. Hunter; brother, Harold Glenn Whaley; infant sister, Sadie Catherine Whaley; grandsons, Gus Sadler and Gary Beacham; and her beloved in-laws, Elijah and Sallie Mac Pate.

The Pate family wishes to express deepest gratitude to some of their own, Carrie Mae Pate, Wanda P. Goforth, Betty P., and Steve Baker, for the exemplary love and care they gave to their loved one.  Also, special thanks are extended to members of the 3HC hospice team including Jordan, Juliette, Heather, Jewel, and chaplain, Rev. Alan Stocks, for outstanding compassion and care, and to the Kitty Askins team for tender comfort during Mrs. Pate’s last hours.  They ask God’s favor and greatest blessings be upon you all.
